If you are a fan of the “wacky weed”, “mary jane” or just plain marijuana, today is your lucky day.
Today marks National Weed Day or 4/20 as some call it. April 20th is a day that ‘pot heads’ around the globe gather together and celebrate the controversial plant and to promote the idea of legalizing it; some even choose to smoke it.
There are expected to be several ‘protestivals,’ as they call them, across the nation today.
So, where did the term ‘4/20′ come from? It originated in 1971 when a group of high school students from San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California used the phrase in order to signal a meeting time to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue; the time was 4:20. Since then, the phrase has caught on globally in movies, shows and even songs.
For some states, this may be the last 420 Day to celebrate the drug illegally. California is in the midst of trying to legalize the drug this coming fall.
Whether or not you choose to partake in the ’smoke out,’ there is no reason why you cannot have a little fun with the day. Some people are even celebrating it without knowing what they are celebrating.
